About The Circle

Supporting Palos Verdes Art Center

The Palos Verdes Art Center was 44 years old in 1974 when it finally got its own buildings on Crestridge Road. Prior to that it led a nomadic life with exhibitions in Malaga Cove Library and art classes in scattered locales.

Having a permanent home was wonderful but also brought a need for more money. Under the leadership of Harlyne Norris and Enid Coors, The Circle was born on February 28, 1975, and its first fundraiser, a sale of hotel china and cookware, was held a mere 15 days later. It raised $2212.

In its 50 years, The Circle has raised more than $2,100,000 for the Art Center, far exceeding its $25,000 annual fundraising commitment. These funds have contributed to the annual budget and a capital campaign, outfitted a commercial kitchen and bought specific items ranging from patio furniture, sound systems and computers to exhibition pedestals and an electric kiln.

Fundraisers included parties, fashion shows, appraisal days, homes tours and, most recently, Collected Treasures, the upscale garage sale that is now a must for area antique dealers. The next sale is March 20-22, 2026.

The Circle has helped the Art Center in other ways as well from hosting holiday receptions to providing docents for exhibitions.

Throughout its history, The Circle has balanced FUNDraising with FUNraising. Members, averaging around 100 women, learn about art through luncheon speakers and field trips. They enjoy annual Valentine’s Day teas, small summer Get To Know You gatherings and October Harvest Moon parties plus book, gourmet, walking and stitching groups.
